Labeled Tree

Main content start

LABELED TREE. Quercus agrifolia, Coast live oak.
East of Encina Commons.

Trees can be unlabeled or labeled, with leaves assigned labels from a label set. In trees that describe relationships of specific organisms, leaf labels correspond to the names of the organisms. Many buildings on the Stanford campus are named for Spanish words for tree species. This coast live oak, or encina in Spanish, is "labeled" by the building to which it is adjacent.
